Childhood Vaccinations:

Childhood immunisations are given at the surgery, These are currently covered by the HSE and are available free of charge at Park Medical Practice.

The national immunisation website www.immunisation.ie also contains useful information of all childhood immunisations.

 

The new schedule for babies born after 1st October 2016 is:

 

Age                    Vaccine

2 months            6 in 1 + PCV + MenB + Rotavirus Oral

4 months            6 in 1 + MenB + Rotavirus

6 months            6 in 1 + PCV + MenC

12 months          MMR + MenB

13 months          Meningitis + Haemophilus + PCV

 

Cervical Smears:

Park Medical Practice is registered with the National Cancer Screening Service for provision of cervical cancer screening  (smear test). These are available free of charge if you are currently due a smear (every 3 years for women aged 25 - 45, every 5 years between the age of 45 - 60)

Asthma:

Check up including spiormetry, assessment of inhaler technique

Health Promotion & Health Screening

Disease Prevention provides much better value for both the patient and the community. We especially promote regular excercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. This may be combined with weight management or smoking cessation.

A comprehensive 'top to toe' health check and screening, this includes fasting bloods, physical examination and, if appropriate, ECG.

Minor Surgery:

Park Medical Practice provides surgical care and advice on all forms of minor surgical procedures. Examples include: moles,lumps, growths, joint injections, ingrown toe-nails and certain types of skin lesions.

Cryotherapy:

This technology uses liquid nitrogen to treat common skin problems such as warts, verruca and appropriate skin lesions.

Smoking Cessation:

We provide specific smoking cessation counselling with the addition, where appropriate, of nicotine replacement therapy or anti-addiction medication, in patients who have made the first step of deciding to stop smoking.

Driving Licence including eyesight testing:

Review and assessment of medical fitness to drive, including full visual and physical examinations, are available

Cholesterol Screening:

Blood tests and ECGs may be done if appropriate (if you would like a cholesterol test you should be fasting for 14 hours so please book an early morning appointment).

Travel Vaccinations:

We provide travel health information for people travelling to any and all foreign destinations. This includes recommended vacciantions and anti-malarial advice. Please make an appointment with the nurse.

Maternity Visits:

Maternity care is covered by the HSE, who pay for 6 routine antenatal and 2 post natal visits. From time to time some patients may require extra maternity visits, these may also be included under the HSE maternity scheme.

Developmental Checks:

Park Medical Practice provides developmental checks in the early stages of your childs development.

Post Pregnancy:

After the birth the baby we will examine your baby at two weeks and a six week check for you and your baby. During these consultations we will provide you with advice on - Feeding advice (breast or bottle) - Post Natal Care (lactation advise) - immunisations - development stages - identify any medical issues.

Heartwatch

Available to all patients following heart attack or coronary intervention e.g. stenting

 

We run a HEARTWATCH programme which was launched in 2004 by the Department of health aimed at the secondary prevention of heart disease. Secondary prevention is applying preventative measures to people who have already had a cardiac problem. The programme is aimed at those people who have already had a heart attack, or a cardiac intervention such as angioplasty, stent or coronary bypass. Unfortunately we cannot include people in the Heartwatch program who are not in this category. There are several other oprions for those people.

If you believe you qualify for this programme you can approach us to take part. We feel it provides you with the very best in preventative care.

 

Influenza & Pneumonia:

All patients over the age of 65 and patients with Diabetes, Cardiac, Renal, Lung or other chronic disease are recommended to have the yearly Influenza vaccination and a once off Pneumococcal vaccine. Please contact the surgery to book an appointment.

Family Planning:

We offer family planning and sexual health advice and fitting of all contraceptive services including Implanon, Mirena Coil and Oral Contraceptive Pill. During the consultation we will help you choose the ones thats right to you at your stage of life.
